G-SPOT MEN
I do believe it's time for me to join the FBI. They're
href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-
dyn/content/article/2005/09/19/AR2005091901570.html"
target=_blank">looking for a few good agents with the guts and
mettle to battle one of the greatest threats to this nation: people
fucking on film.
Early last month, the bureau's Washington Field Office
began recruiting for a new anti-obscenity squad. Attached to the job
posting was a July 29 Electronic Communication from FBI headquarters to
all 56 field offices, describing the initiative as "one of the top
priorities" of Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales and, by extension,
of "the Director." That would be FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III.The new squad will divert eight agents, a supervisor and assorted
support staff to gather evidence against "manufacturers and purveyors"
of pornography -- not the kind exploiting children, but the kind that
depicts, and is marketed to, consenting adults.
Now, obviously not every person working for the FBI can be focused on
deterring terrorism and other threats to domestic security, but are we
that well off right now that we can be deploying Mulder and Scully to
the San Fernando Valley to keep an eye on Dirk Diggler & Co.? Not to
mention the utter futility of such an undertaking. The proliferation
of cheap and legal digital video technology and the Internet make
effective monitoring of the porn industry about 1% as likely as the
disruption of the illegal drug trade in the U.S. And that's working
out like gangbusters, right?
The fact that I even have to make a logistical argument against an FBI
porno squad is pitiful. If some local town wants to remove
Swank from the racks of its 7-11; let 'em go ahead and do it.
Then they can deal with the local pervs checking out the Bang Bus site
on the PCs at their public library and it'll be their own fault.
Putting national federal resources to monitor pornographers during
peacetime is absurd. Doing it now is an actual obscenity.
